Adelphi Street
Rethinking the neighbourhood street
The Adelphi Street project in Salford was a neighbourhood-led vision to create a space that fosters social interaction, encourages shared streets principles, and prioritises high-quality street design interwoven with green infrastructure. The project focuses on people, creating a place where residents feel a sense of belonging and connection.

Creating streets that are places
A core principle guiding the design was the creation of sociable neighbourhoods. We achieved this by prioritising pedestrian movement and creating a network of interconnected public spaces. We designed shared streets where pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles coexist safely, prioritising people over cars. The placement of street furniture, such as benches and picnic tables, was carefully considered to create informal meeting points and encourage social interaction.

Sharing history through detailed design
High-quality street design with green infrastructure was paramount. We aimed to create a visually appealing and sustainable environment that benefits both residents and the wider community. The streetscape features high-quality materials and detailing, creating a sense of place and pride. Linseed (a key ingredient in linoleum that was previously manufactured on site) provided a concept for pattern creation a detailing across the scheme.
Overall, the Adelphi Street project is an example of how thoughtful landscape design can create a vibrant and sustainable community hub. By prioritising sociable and community neighbourhoods, and integrating high-quality street design with green infrastructure, we have created a place where residents can connect, interact, and thrive.
